Focus on Greatness

Just over a year ago many people felt the downward shift in our economic system. Many are still feeling it. If you have read my last post, you saw how I dealt with this dilemma by creating a Vision Board. Some of you might have said "how silly that is." Some may have said.. "let me try that".

By allowing subconscious thoughts translated into images to come to the surface, you then begin to move forward in a more positive direction. For myself, things that were only dreams are beginning to manifest as new business ventures, new partnerships and a new way of living in the world. Some things have become a reality already!

Everything first exists as an idea. The vision boards, drawing and doodling help you to pull ideas from deep within that the logical mind might dismiss as silly. Your creative mind finds ways to turn them into reality.

"Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviours. Keep your behaviours positive, because your behaviours become your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny."
(Mahatma Gandhi)

What you focus on expands. That is the premise for the law of attraction that we have heard so much about. This is not new, this concept has been around forever in most cultures. What are you focusing on?

Keep focused on your dream

It is that time of year again when we say goodbye to the prior year and begin fresh. Consider using the Draw Out Greatness method- the Rainbow Visualization Poster to start this year off right.

This concept was put to the test last year at this time. For the first time in my life I had no business coming in. A big contract that was on the table (which I had cleared my yearly schedule for) disappeared. To make matters worse, no new business was to be had, no classes were scheduled and my income was zero for the first time in my life. I was out of work. For about a week I freaked out. Sound normal? Then I realized what I had learned and have been teaching worked before and it would work again. I had to stay focused on the outcome I wished for and not what I feared. I needed to create a new vision for my life - one where I was living the dream and always inspired.

I took out a new Rainbow Visualization Poster for 2009 and began adding images cut from magazines that turned me on. I did this intuitively without thinking too much. The vision showed me my life in a better way - one where I was living my wildest dreams. Even if it was just on paper I got happy just looking at it. I took photos of myself to put on the heads of the people on my poster. Things immediately turned around because my attitude changed from despair to excitement.

Keep your eye on what you want and not what you are afraid will happen. This is not hokus pokus. This is about looking in the direction of your dreams so you stay positive. It is a way to work with enthusiasm for life. It is about being open to seeing and acting upon the goals you set for yourself. If you are down and thinking "these are hard times", when you meet someone will you be looking for the opportunity of how you can help that person? Not likely. You will be thinking about yourself and possibly having a pity party (if you were like me when I was freaking out).

By learning to focus on the outcome your desire when speaking to people, you can really listen to each person. You may hear that they are looking for a partner in a unique new business and you may be perfect. Your excitement about life allows you to say, "tell me more". You may have monopolized the conversation with tales of woe if you hadn't shifted to an up mood and missed this opportunity.

With a new vision , you may still have to fight to keep up. You must believe things are not that bad and will work out fine. Sure it was a challenge to convince myself that it would all work out. Even though not a penny was coming in and I wasn't sure if people would buy art any time soon, I made myself realize that I was already rich despite the present circumstances. I had to get my mind off of being out of business and see this as an opportunity to stop doing all that no longer served me. I got a new chance to recreate my life! You may have to convince yourself as well that in this very moment that you are ok. After all, you are breathing. So breathe!

When my mind was focused on that which I desired I was able to think creatively. A smile came to my face when I began creating tiny works of art. With the sale of the first one on my blog, you would have thought I won the lottery. What can you sell on Ebay to make extra cash? Many ideas came to mind.

If I hadn't got into the mental state of gratitude for what I already have, I couldn't get motivated to try to find new jobs or go into the studio to create new work. Starting from scratch quickly turned into an exciting new challenge!

With a vision in front of you, you are open to success. What is your definition of success? What would make you feel good about yourself? Set a tiny goal, like I'm going to make one phone call, for example. Then do it. Once done... Celebrate! Success is relative. It is a mind game.

So, let's start 2010 in a great frame of mind. Start to feel real good about yourself. How? Ask yourself... What do you want in your life? What inspires you? What makes you feel good? Write down what comes to mind. Begin to focus on these things to start the process.

Next post... Finding inspiration Look through some magazines and cut out all images that turn you on. That will help you see what your heart desires and what makes you feel good. It will help you find your life's purpose. Before you glue them down to a surface (like the Rainbow Vision Poster) allow me to tell you what to do with these images. The next post will teach you how to create a wonderful road map to follow.

This painting served as a reminder to choose to look toward the light and if something upsets or scares you- don't hide from it - feel it and move through it. It is the only way to rid yourself from the things (your inner demons) that keep you from knowing what you are really made of.

"I'm amazed at the process used by Draw Out Greatness. As I look at this picture I created on the Visualization board and after decoding my doodles, it is as if I have already done these great things I want to achieve, do or enjoy. It definitely puts the mind in a different place believing that more things are possible.

I left the two day course with a new clarity, added confidence in realizing my goals and excitement about my ability to create art."

"Art-I really never knew it existed and Linda opened up a whole new world to me. At her prompting, I completed a doodle- like painting, which represented what I wanted my life to look like. I wanted purpose, but also a lot of fireworks and excitement. Today, whenever I look at that piece, it is a reminder of what I am creating."
Tonya G. , PA

"At first I was skeptical. I was amazed at the aha moments I experienced even with the first doodle exercise in the workshop. The collage really helped me to have more clarity about what I want out of life."
Joy N. , NY

After creating a vision of your heart's desires you'll experience an added confidence. This is not about getting more things, although you may. This is about living the life you were destined to live. It helps you to see beyond obstacles that have held you back in the past. This is about being free from the self imposed road blocks and blind spots (repeating patterns in life that don't work) that keep you from living up to your potential.

Workshops- NO these are Playshops

Draw Out Greatness for Non-Artists

ARE YOU LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT? If so, awesome! If not, listen up. Your imagination is waiting to assist you in becoming all that you can be. You already have within all you need to do, be or have all you desire. Don't believe me, try this for yourself.

Discover a new tool for living.

1. Find out what symbols (doodles) can help to empower you. Symbols can serve as metaphors for your greatness. These visuals can stir something deep inside that fuels your fire.

2 . When you say the words, "I can't" you stop the creative process from showing you options. If you are still reading this, you are the type of person who would gain from this. Learn ways to bypass the inner critic that keeps you from trying new things. There is much fear around creating art. I've learned to make it so simple that you won't have to draw anything realistic. You'll begin to realize happiness is a choice and not a condition based on outside circumstances.

3. Your imagination can give you the necessary clues to open up new doors of possibility for you. Learn how to tap into the inner knowing so you can do, be or have what you desire. You have no idea what possibilities will open up for you from this adventure.

4. See how even YOUR simple doodles contain hidden messages and clues about you. You can do this on your own using the Draw Out Greatness kit . Find a friend or two and book a creative night. This is way more fun. Or book me to come to your town. I require at least five participants and travel expenses.

Lecture , May 3rd at the Artery Gallery, Milford, PA

The Artery GAllery in Milford, PA is please to offer an additional treat for the closing Artist's Reception on May 3;

a preview of the locally offered free lecture by Linda Richichi, a noted pastelist, SUNY Orange art teacher, and Artery Alumni from 2002-2004.

Linda is an international award winning artist whose work is widely collected. Her pastel paintings are a successful blending of the academic principles of drawing and composition

with the emotive strength of expressionism, and frequently surprise with bursts of brilliant color.

Linda now brings that experience and talent to her free lecture series “Draw Out Greatness”, a technique for artists and nonartists to gain valuable insights and clarity simply from their doodles.

Linda's new mixed media collages, on display at the gallery, reflect these powerful life lessons. Linda will be at the gallery from 1-1:45 demonstrating elements of her lecture “Draw Out Greatness”. The public is welcome to this free event, and encouraged to join us for some light refreshments immediately after. For more information, visit www.DrawOutGreatness.com .

While at the gallery I met another artist who was very interested in what this is all about. He is using art to move past pain. These exercises are powerful. I'll be writing about the work of this remarkable man shortly! (06/27/09)

Declare Your Own Creative Day

Hi!

Years ago my girlfriend Carole and I declared that Thursday was our creative day. Each Thursday we got together to just play. We wanted to invite the muse back into our life.

Years ago the muse, the genius, was thought to be outside of the artist. There is a wonderful speech on Ted tv by Elizabeth Gilbert , author of Eat, Pray ,Love. She hits the nail on the head. It is time for us to realize that inspiration, being inspired means to be "in spirit". Scroll down to find the link.

Consider declaring a creative night or day for yourself. Get together with one or two friends and reclaim your power to create. If you would like to have me there to assist you, I'd be happy to come to your town when you have five others interested at $175 for a two day workshop plus travel expenses over 75 miles. 845 567-0060
